Today’s Photo Of The Day is a mixture of photos from the Russian exercise Tsentr 2019, which involved 8 countries in 17 locations.Tsentr 2019 was aimed at “countering the threat of international terrorism” and involved no less than 128 000 troops, 20 000 pieces of military equipment, 600 aircraft and 15 ships.

Above you can see Russian Snipers in camouflage (Ghille) suits during the Center-2019 strategic command and staff exercises at the Liaur training ground. It looks to me like they are using the SVD and the pretty rare and suppressed VSS Vintorez.

Below: Various pictures and key episodes of Tsentr 2019 maneuvers at Ashuluk, Donguz and Liaur training grounds.

Hear me out on a silly idea: Shoot that PKP off the moving ATV, from the pintle mount seen.

Damn, that wood stock on the VSS and SVD looks 1: birch (more than OK), but worryingly, looks basically raw wood.

Isn't it going to warp and whatnot?

@Uncle Yar Option 1: it's plastic. Bakelite, or whatever polymer the Russians are using now, in desert colors.

Option 2: it's real wood, with just a clear coat sealant over it. No need to dress up what's going to be covered in cloth and tape.

When it comes to small arms, Russia is nothing if not practical.
