I have learned a lot about the firearms industry from my time here at TFB. But one of my most important lessons has been to never predict the death of a company or a segment of the industry until you see a corpse in a coffin and you’re throwing dirt on the lid. And even then, you can’t count out the chance of a resurrection.
As I hammered out a particularly harsh news story a few years back, my friend, mentor and the founder of TFB, Steve Johnson, warned me to not underestimate the resiliency of the firearms industry. Wise words. And, of course, the internet has a way of magnifying your worst gun fears. Let’s take a look at the living, the dead and the undead in the firearms world.
TFB HALLOWEEN: Your Worst Gun Fears And Spooky Buys
Our job here at TFB is to bring you fair, accurate and balanced news surrounding the firearms industry – as well as reviews, editorials and the always annoying affiliate holiday gear lists (I’m sorry, see below). I’m incredibly proud of our staff of editors, writers and videographers – they continue to bring you excellent content in spite of all my administrative harassments.
The point I was trying to make using my advanced artistic skills in the title image is that, despite what rumors float around on the World Wide Web, no one really knows what’s living, dead or undead. From Colt to H&K and Remington, predictions of demise are often greatly exaggerated. Other topics like bump stocks and the Hearing Protection Act (HPA) are pretty much dead and buried. While still others, like YouTube Gun channels appear to be dead several times in any given year, continue to march forward. As evidence, Executive Producer James Reeves and the rest of the TFBTV Crew crossed 700K subscribers this week. A major accomplishment for such a young channel. Congratulations guys.
While TFB doesn’t get everything right, we will continue to bring you the latest developments, advances and regulatory news as it comes across our virtual desks. Thanks for reading everyone have a fun and safe Halloween.
(And as much as I joke about .45 ACP being a dead caliber, everything has its place.)
Warne Scope Mounts is excited to introduce their second generation SKEL mount, the X-SKEL. This new MSR mount offers an additional 1” of forward cantilever, and 1 piece clamp design for added strength. The rugged, lightweight design of the X-SKEL maintains our famous Return to Zero capability, and utilizes ½” hex nuts for rock solid attachment. It features a skeletonized ring body and caps for reduced weight and steel threaded cap inserts for maximum durability. The X-SKEL places your optic at the IDEAL HEIGHT with a generous cantilever for proper eye relief, it will easily accommodate the longer eyepieces found on many of today’s scopes.
- Lightweight, skeletonized aluminum body and caps to reduce overall weight without sacrificing reliability.
- #8 Torx style fasteners with steel threaded inserts to prevent stripping
- Additional 1 Inch cantilever forward design to provide additional eye relief.
- Places your optic at the Ideal Height for MSR and similar platforms.
- 1/2” tactical nut attachment, 65 in/lb. of torque is recommended.
Self-contained module is ready to install in your small-pin AR and deliver an exceptionally smooth, crisp, creep-free single-stage trigger pull that feels more like a traditional bolt action than a combat rifle trigger. 100% drop-in—no gunsmithing, fitting, or adjusting required. All components are captive in the lightweight, aluminum alloy housing. Hammer is wire-EDM machined from S7 tool steel that combines hardness to resist wear with superior impact resistance to withstand heavy use without chipping or breaking. Other components are EDM cut from A2 tool steel, then heat treated to Rc 56-60 for long service life. Precision-ground engagement surfaces ensure superb reliability and a crisp, clean hammer release. Installs using your rifle’s original hammer/trigger pins; proprietary design eliminates pin walkout. Available with a distinctive-looking, lighter-weight skeletonized shoe, with choice of 3 lb., 4 lb., or 4.5 lb. pull weight.
