Browning has published a press release announcing the availability of X-Bolt Max Varmint/Target rifles which were first introduced at SHOT Show 2019. This iteration of the company’s X-Bolt rifle is designed to be used in long-range hunting and target shooting. It is suitable for these applications thanks to the new Max stock, heavy profile barrels and several other features.

The Max stock is probably the most notable part of these rifles. Here is how the company describes this stock:

A highlight of the X-Bolt Max Varmint/Target is the composite Max stock. It features an adjustable comb that allows the shooter to dial-in the fit of the rifle to optimize eye-to-scope alignment. Included stock spacers are easy to fit between the Inflex Technology recoil pad and the stock to adjust the length of pull. A comfortable, upright pistol grip optimizes finger-to-trigger reach. A fore-end mounted Picatinny rail provides a secure location for a bipod and includes an integrated mount for a sling swivel. The horizontal surface on the bottom of the buttstock sends the rifle straight back when shooting from bags, helping to keep the target in the scope so the shooter can watch for bullet impact. The matte black finish minimizes reflection to help hide from cagey varmints.

The X-Bolt Max Varmint/Target is offered in the following calibers: .204 Ruger, .223 Remington, .22-250 Remington, 6.5mm Creedmoor, .308 Winchester, .28 Nosler, .300 Win Mag. Regardless of the caliber, the rifle is equipped with 26″ bull profile free-floated and fluted stainless steel barrels. The.first three caliber options have threaded barrels with 1/2-28 thread pitch and the rest of them come with 5/8-24 threads. The rifles are also shipped with a muzzle brake and a thread protector.

To have the most optimal fit to any particular cartridge, three lengths of the X-Bolt action are used in this rifle: Super Short Action (SSA), Short Action and Long Action. The overall weight of the rifle varies from 9 lb to 9lb 6oz depending on the caliber and action length. The overall length also depends on these factors and varies from 41 5/8″ to 46 7/8″. The rifle also features an extended bolt handle, adjustable trigger, and X-Lock scope mounting system with four scope mounting screws on each receiver ring. The capacity of detachable rotary magazine is 3, 4 or 5 rounds depending on the caliber.

The cartridges that X-Bolt Max Varmint/Target rifles are chambered in also determine the price. The .28 Nosler version has an MSRP of $1,399.99, the .300 Win Mag rifle will cost you $1,379.99 and the rifles chambered in the rest of the calibers have a price tag of $1,339.99.
