POTD: Spartan Brigade Get their M17s

US Troops with M17 (US Army)

The roll out of the US Army’s new Modular Handgun System continues, with the U.S. Army’s Pacific Command tweeting on 16 September, that soldiers stationed in Alaska and members of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Div (or Spartan Brigade) received their new M17s. The soldiers took part in a “train the trainer” course to help familiarise their units with the new side arm.

We’ve previously covered the SIG Sauer MHS’ roll out here, here and here. The first units received the pistols back in November 2017, with the first to receive the new pistols the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division. Since then the roll out has been gaining pace with other services beginning to receiver their first pistols. The USAF began receiving the M18 in March while the USMC also began issuing the compact version of the MHS in May.
