SAFETY RECALL: Winchester Recalls Two Lot Numbers Of .17HMR Ammo
Late last week, Winchester announced a product warning and recall for two batches of their .17 HMR ammunition. Winchester stated that loads from these two lots could be missing powder. The primer alone may have enough force to get the bullet into the barrel, but not enough to make it exit. This could cause a catastrophic failure if a normally charged cartridge were used with the barrel obstructed. Olin Winchester’s full press release is posted below:

To determine if your ammunition is subject to this notice, review the Symbol and Lot Number. If it is Symbol X17HMR1 and the last four characters of the Lot Number are NB51 or NB61, immediately discontinue use and contact Winchester toll-free at 844-653-8358 for free UPS pick-up of the recalled ammunition.
This notice applies only to Symbol X17HMR1 with Lot Numbers ending in NB51 and NB61. Other Symbols or Lot Numbers are not subject to this recall.

My dad feverishly hates Winchester ammo, I can't wait to tell him this so I can watch him go off on a tangent about how their ammo is garbage.
How could that much of a weight discrepancy pass QC? Is there just a Laverne and Shirley standing on the line watching the rounds roll by?
