NEW SIG P365 SAS: TFB Goes Hands-On With A Slick Setup

    P365 SAS

A few months ago TFB was allowed an exclusive sneak peek at SIG Sauer’s newest iteration of the P365 subcompact pistol. Like the rest of the snag-free versions of SIG’s popular carry guns, the new P365 SAS features rounded edges, recessed controls, and an overall slick profile. However, this new CCW-focused gun goes several steps beyond just buffing out the rough edges. The most notable feature is the lack of a traditional front/rear sight system. Instead, the P365 SAS includes an embedded holographic tritium/fiber optic sight that aligns the target with a dot inside a dot. The result is a slick slide without any protruding sights to get in the way of a smooth draw from a concealed location.

While SIG doesn’t mention whether the new sighting system is manufactured in house or licensed from an outside company, the design appears to be the Meprolight/Mako Group FT Bullseye system. With both fiber optic and tritium illumination sources, the FT Bullseye sight removes the need for a front sight. If your eye is lined up parallel to the bore, a green dot appears inside a green circle. Misaligned? No dot. Whatever the relationship between SIG and the FT Bullseye sight, the New Hampshire firearms manufacturer has taken the idea to the next level by embedding it right in the slide. Slick.

Like the rest of SIG’s popular SAS line of carry guns, the new P365 variant includes recessed controls, rounded edges and smoothed surfaces. But this new SIG also includes a ported barrel and slide to help reduce muzzle flip.

The P365 SAS feels great and will undoubtedly make a great carry piece. There may be a slight learning curve with the FT Bullseye sights, but like all explorations in real innovation, that is to be expected. The pistol points naturally and the circle/dot system aligns itself with little effort. I didn’t get the chance to have a range session with the prototype, so I’m really looking forward to putting some rounds through SIG Sauer’s latest debut.

The P365SAS was designed for the serious CCW user who truly understands the value of smoother draws, faster sight acquisition, and more effective engagements at realistic distances.  This pistol does just that by taking the concept of the SIG Anti Snag (SAS) treatment to a whole new level.  With the incorporation of the FT Bullseye sight embedded into the slide, the P365SAS does away with the need of a primary snag hazard of all pistols…the front sight.  With the assistance of fiber optics during the day and tritium in low light, the user can now obtain a crystal clear high-visibility bullseye sight picture at real-word engagement distances faster than ever before.  The ported barrel and slide results in up to 30% less muzzle flip and zero front sight fouling, since there isn’t one.  The flush slide catch and takedown levers ensure absolute smoothness and zero snag risk.  After shooting the P365SAS, sights will never look the same.
