The Classic PT 92 with Walnut Grips
Taurus has announced two new models in its PT 92 semi-auto pistol line. The enhanced model 92s deliver on the rich heritage and classic styling of this popular and venerated full-frame handgun – this time with beautiful Brazilian walnut wood grips.
The PT 92 has been a popular firearm for Taurus since the 1980’s when the company took the reigns of Beretta’s Sao Paulo operation. This acquisition included the specifications, tooling, and machinery Beretta used to make the Beretta Model 92.
Since the acquisition, Taurus has gone forward with improving the 92 series of semi-auto pistols with various design upgrades. For example, very early models of the PT92 were near-exact copies of the Beretta 92, both having an ambidextrous safety, round trigger guard and heel mounted magazine releases. The original PT92s also shipped with shiny plastic grips.

Many years later we have the current version designed to meet the safety and performance needs of civilian shooters. Other innovations include a three-position frame-mounted ambidextrous safety, which is more secure than a slide-mounted safety, and allows for a classic SA “cocked and locked” mode, as well as functioning as a DA decocking lever.
The newest iteration of the PT92 features Brazillian Walnut grips for the historied gun. The wood itself contains very distinguished grain patterns and vibrant variations in the tone of the wood giving it an almost custom look.
The newest Walnut clad PT92’s are available in 9mm and use drop-hammer-forged ordnance grade alloy frames. Both the alloy steel and stainless steel slide models are offered in matte stainless steel finish or black matte finish, both feature 5-inch barrels.
