Today’s photo of the day features Italian Paratroopers and their Beretta ARX-160s. The ARX-160 has been Italy’s standard issue service rifle since 2008.

These photos, taken by Staff Sgt. Austin Berner, show Italian paras assigned to 1st Platoon, 20th Company, 183rd Airborne Regiment, pulling security during Exercise Immediate Response at Cerklje ob Krki airbase, in Slovenia back in May 2019. Exercise Immediate Response was a multinational exercise co-led by the Croatian, Slovenian, and U.S. Armies. The exercise was logistics-focused to test and improve the ability to move forces and equipment rapidly from one location to another. Which is seen as a vital capability should Russian aggression in Eastern Europe necessitate deployment of NATO troops.
