TACCOM Delayed Blowback 9mm Recoil System with Neodymium Magnets

TACCOM Delayed Blowback 9mm Recoil System (1)

This new TACCOM product may look like a simple captive buffer assembly for AR-pattern firearms, however, as its name implies, this system delays the rearward motion of the reciprocating parts. The delay is achieved thanks to the use of rare-earth neodymium magnets. Let’s see how the company describes the operation of this delayed blowback recoil system:

The TACCOM Delayed blowback recoil system is unlike any other recoil system on the market today. We use Rare Earth Neodymium Magnets to retard the movement of the bolt for a split second, this allows for the pressure in the chamber to drop some before sending the bolt back in the recoil stroke. This allows for the use of a lighter system, yet moving at the same speed as a heavier system…..allowing for less felt recoil and with that, less vertical dot (sight) movement. What this means is that you will have a faster return to target for faster follow up shots.

According to TACCOM, a PCC equipped with this recoil system successfully passed a 10,000 round test and there was no magnetic field strength loss detected. Currently, the TACCOM Delayed Blowback Recoil System is available only for 9x19mm PCCs. However, the company mentions that they also tested it in .40 S&W and .45 ACP PCCs and it performed flawlessly. I assume that’s a hint that .40 S&W and .45 ACP versions of this system may become available in the foreseeable future, too.

TACCOM also points out a couple of important things to know concerning the compatibility of this buffer system with other 9mm PCC parts:

    • Short stroked system*
    • Works with any ‘hollow’ pistol caliber bolt**
    • Self contained system, no need for traditional detent pin

*Short stroke system will not allow for the automatic use of the Bolt Hold Open feature

**On JP Enterprise Bolts, the front keeper and screw will need to be removed and the use of a detent pin is recommended.

TACCOM Delayed Blowback 9mm Recoil System is listed on the company’s website at an MSRP of $149.95. The estimates start of shipping is … tomorrow! If you are late and the first batch is sold out, don’t worry, the company assures that they will bring it back in stock in a matter of days because the manufacturing of this product is completely done in-house.

I can’t think of any other existing delayed blowback system that uses magnets. Earlier, we discussed the Magnetomechanical Recoil Reduction System by DPM Systems, but that gadget was designed for locked breech handguns. What should we call such a system – magnet delayed blowback? Let us know in the comments section what do you think about this product and the use of magnets in firearms, in general.
