HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? The REAL Midas Muffler

Welcome everyone to our 13th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you missed any one of our other articles, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this gat a sweet deal or does it only have fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, found the Gwinn Firearms Arm Pistol to be an overwhelmingly hot gat. It was a landslide victory for this strange, slightly obscure historical bullpup.

Not only was the Gwinn deemed a hot gat, but it also found itself a new home. Congratulations to wheats77 who took this hot gat home for $2,024.

In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at one of the most baller gun mufflers of all time.  As always, this item is currently up for sale on GunBroker with a starting bid of $1,159 or $1,200 Buy It Now.

HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP?  The REAL Midas Muffler

Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:

As a Saints fan, I have no issue whatsoever with any black/gold combo. Hot gat. – James Reeves

Midas Touch: Where Does This Muffler Touch You? – Pete

Moving loudness to the sense of sight.  -Giorgio O.

Hot gat only if it comes with a private island and Nick Nack wearing a tuxedo. -Rusty S.

    ilovegold.gif – Nick C.

Is it as quiet as it is discrete in its looks? Not convinced. –Eric B.

Selling this overly posh sound moderation device is GunBroker seller Black Rose Firearms, whose work has been previously featured on this series.  Let’s see what they have to say about this one of a kind can.

What’s more ridiculous than a gold gun? How about a gold silencer??? We have the only Gold Silencers in the Country….Live a little…The looks you get at the range are worth the weight in gold!! Own this show stopping piece!! This is for a custom made Gold Titanium Nitride Silencer that will look fantastic on any black or one of our custom gold guns. This Suppressor is custom built for Black Rose Firearms by Stealth Elite. The can measurements are 1.36 x 8.1. The thread is 1/2-28. This auction DOES NOT include the gun pictured. That gun is for sale in our other auctions and is currently not threaded, as we are in the process of finding barrels for 2.0’s. This suppressor has a Titanium body, and Titanium baffles, and even the baffles are Gold Titanium Nitride. This will also come with the pistol booster kit which are also gold…it also comes with take down tools. This is a class 3 weapon and will need to transfer to a dealer who is licensed for class 3 items in the state you live in.

No, sadly that sweet gold M&P45 is not included with the purchase of this gold titanium suppressor.  The can also only has one gold booster kit. Which means you will have to supply your own host firearm to complement this flashy silencer.

Some of you might be asking yourself, “How many incorrect slang terms am I going to use to describe this “suppressor”?”.  As many as I want, and here’s why.

Hiram Percy Maxim filed his patent for the Silent Firearm in 1909 and formed what later became the Maxim Silencer Company. Hence the term “silencer”.  The debate over what terminology is “correct” has somehow always been a subject of contention.  Silencers suppress a gunshot, so both terms are “correct”. So it really doesn’t matter what term or slang you choose to use. In the U.S. silencers are registered as firearms, even though they have no means of firing ammunition. So, strangely enough, we can call this a gat.

All this aside, 45 ACP certainly does lean more heavily towards being a fudd caliber. Still, it’s a great caliber to shoot suppressed as almost all 45 ACP ammo is subsonic.  This certainly could be a fun range toy, if you’re willing to overlook the high price tag.

So what do you think?  Is this Gold Suppression device a Hot Gat or some overpriced over-regulated Fudd Crap?  Let us know in the comments below, and be sure to cast your vote and let us know if this REAL Midas Muffler is Hot Gat or Fudd Crap:
