Strike Industries Collar Adjustable Gas Block (CAGB)

Strike Industries keeps releasing the products that they teased at SHOT Show 2019. Past Friday, they officially launched the Collar Adjustable Gas Block (CAGB) for AR-15 rifles. This device allows to select one of the five gas port size options or even completely close the gas port.

The five settings should allow tuning your rifle for any imaginable environmental condition (e.g. extreme cold), ammunition type, rifle condition (e.g. very dirty gun) or for running the gun suppressed. Why would you need the sixth position that completely closes the gas port? Of course for launching rifle grenades! Speaking more realistically, by completely closing the gas port you can go full ninja and shoot a suppressed rifle with subsonic rounds and without having the noise of the cycling action. Basically, it will allow converting the rifle into a straight pull bolt action in a matter of turning the collar if you need utmost sound suppression at the cost of turning the semi-auto weapon into a manual repeater. In order to adjust this gas block, all you need is to simply rotate the collar – no tools are required. Now, with the collar being behind the gas block and considering that most of the rifles nowadays have the gas block deep inside the handguard, how will you adjust it? In the below-embedded video, Strike Industries shows that it is possible to adjust this gas block by sticking a cartridge through an M-LOK slot and using the bullet tip. When accessorizing the handguard, I’d make sure to leave an open M-LOK slot (or half of a slot) to be able to reach the adjustment collar.

The Strike Industries Collar Adjustable Gas Block is compatible with AR-15 barrels that have a .750″ diameter at the gas block mounting area. The installation is a little bit different from installing a standard gas block. However, I think if you can install the latter, then you can install the SI CAGB, too. It is basically done by sandwiching the adjustment collar between the gas block and the barrel. There are a couple of nuances that are shown in the following installation video.

If you are not confident that you can install this gas block, then it will probably be a good idea to take it to a gunsmith.

The Strike Industries CAGB is listed on the company’s website at an MSRP of $99.95.
