POTD: British Army Soldier in Afghanistan Engaging the Enemy

    Today’s Photo Of The Day displays a British Army Soldier using his SA80 for covering fire in Afghanistan. You can see his fellow soldiers in the background.

    The SA80 has the SA80 Underslung Grenade Launcher (UGL) mounted, which consist of a Heckler & Koch AG-36 40mm grenade launcher paired with an EOTech holographic sight.

    In total his SA80 has no less than three sights, including the main optics and the red dot on top.

    The grenade launcher can deliver fragmenting 40 mm grenade rounds out to 350 meters.

    A Corporal from the Royal Artillery, provides covering fire while members of the BRF cross open ground.

    Troops from 4 Brigade Reconnaissance Force (BRF), on Operation QALB. Op QALB is a joint ISAF and ANSF operation, it’s aim is find enemy caches and disturb Insurgent supply chains.

    Over all they retrieved and destroyed 1.5 tonnes of lethal aid in two days.
