POTD: Austrian VOERE X5 .50 BMG in Flat Dark Earth

Today brings an excellent studio picture of the VOERE X5 bolt-action rifle in caliber .50 BMG, painted in Flat Dark Earth. The color suits the rifle very well.

The barrel length is 813 mm (32″) in 1:15″. As most .50 BMG rifles it’s a beast in terms of weight, 12 kilograms or 26.5 Pounds.

    The trigger is adjustable from 700g to 1300g (1.5 – 2.9 Pounds).

It is possible to configure the rifle for both right and left-handed shooters, and the overall design is modular.

VOERE are based in the Tirol in Austria. Looking at the company’s long history, from 1948, I notice this rather intriguing fact:

The nuclear catastrophe in Chernobyl results in the nuclear contamination of huge landscapes. Hunting is prohibited in Scandinavia, which is the main sales territory of the sister company in Vöhrenbach. As a consequence the plant had to be shut down in 1987.  The production facilities were sold off to Mauser in the Black Forest. Mauser continued to produce the bolt action small bore rifles.

The price of the X5 starts from around € 9,500 in Europe, which is about 10,700 USD.

The scope looks like a Kahles, an excellent choice, but it would add another €3,000 (roughly) to the price.

That’s a lot of money to just get you shooting, still, a lot of people dream of owning a .50 BMG rifle.
