You know what they say, once you go… never mind. Pictured here is a rare occurrence: just before James Reeves picked up the Marlin Model 336 Dark I had told him it was actually an Austrian made polymer carbine. It was only after he was holding the blaster that I informed him that it was actually a new invention called a “lever action”. I think he’s at least intrigued.

Prior to manufacturing, outside forces predicted very limited sales of the new Model 336 Dark and Model 1895 Dark leverguns. Not surprisingly, Marlin surpassed sales estimates with orders placed even before the public announcement. Many of you won’t need convincing, but for everyone else, allow me offer some analysis.

First, and most obviously, is the short(er) threaded barrel that makes for a perfect home for a suppressor. With a locked-up action both the Model 336 Dark and the Model 1885 Dark should suppress nicely. The rest of the analysis is a bit subjective; old west meets tactical, optics ready, black parkerizing and Ban-State ready by default all play a roll in the Dark Series cool factor.

I’ll be owning one, if not both of Marlin’s latest additions.
