POTD: Electronically Remote-Controlled Weapon System

Today’s Photo Of The Day shows the Electronically Remote-Controlled Weapon System of the Pandur 6×6 APC, used by the Bundesheer in Austria.

The Pandur is a 6×6 APC (Armoured Personnel Carrier) produced by the Austrian company Steyr-Daimler-Puch Spezialfahrzeuge (Special Vehicles). It was introduced to the Austrian Army in 1996, but is now out of production.

The main armament is 12.7 mm Machine Gun, but there are other options available.

At the end of the training on the electronically remote-controlled weapon system of the multipurpose vehicle “Hussar” (not shown) and the passenger transport tank “Pandur”, there was a three-day sharp shooting for the 34 participants.

During various exercises, the soldiers of Jägerbataillon 19 fired at distances up to 1,300 meters.

Some 14 000 cartridges per day were spent.
