Welcome everyone to the fifth edition of “Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?”, one of our many series here on TFB. If you missed any one of our other articles, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this a sweet deal or just plain old Fudd garbage?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In last week’s edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, found the Browning SUPER Hi-Power to be a Hot Gat.

 Even with this victory for the strangely chambered Hi-Power, the gun still remains listed on GunBroker.  We at TFB hope that someone out there will find it suitable enough for their collection.

In this week’s edition, we look at what has to be one of the most over the top 1911’s ever created.  As always, this gun is currently up for sale on GunBroker with the auction starting at $5,299.99.

Selling this VERY over the top 1911 on GunBroker is seller Black Rose Firearms, located in Hamilton Ohio.  Let’s see what they had to say about this particular one of a kind 1911.  

This is for a brand new Guncrafters Government Full Size 5 Inch Barrel 1911 in .45 acp. This was ordered from Guncrafters directly and took a year to get made. This beauty is all polished gold Titanium which is two times harder than steel so it’s a gun you can shoot and not worry about it fading like a 24k gold plated gun. We also added the amazing John Blazy Titanium Burl Grips which have flakes of gold, and contrasting streaks of Magenta, Black, and Blue. People who have seen this gun in person using have one word to describe it. “WOW!” If for some reason you don’t like the grips, I can change them with some Guncrafters Black Aluminum Grips. ….comes with two magazines and a Guncrafters range bag with test target. After looking at these photos I also said “Wow”, while simultaneously resisting the urge to throw up in the nearest trash can.  All of the over the top gold (but not real gold) paired with modern art grips is just too much. Looking at this gun just makes me wonder why it was ever created in the first place.  If this gun really took a year to build, did the original buyer have the same reaction when he saw the finished product? It looks as though I’ve been left with more questions than answers.  

Grips on this 1911 are truly one of a kind.  I still can’t figure out if there was ever an intended look that someone was trying to achieve.  Or perhaps we’re looking at what happens when you let an eight-year-old girl design 1911 grips. Regardless of all of this, it has to be some sort of “art” I don’t understand.  One thing is certain, it is undoubtedly the most aesthetically displeasing set of grips I’ve ever seen.

All of this aside, the price of this firearm just seems ludicrous to me.  You would think that a $5,299 gold handgun would at least have some real gold, right?  Well, apparently not in this case. Our builder opted for the range ready TiN finish. Even though I’m fairly certain this gun will remain a very expensive safe decoration for someone.  

Personal feelings aside, this gun looks like it could be a sweet shooter.  Judging by the above build sheet, no expense was spared when it came to the firearm’s internals.  A custom built 1911 can be an extremely accurate gun or an extremely temperamental firearm to own. With that in mind, maybe this one is truly the cream of the crop.  The build sheet details certainly reflect that idea, but there is only one expensive way to find out.
