Daniel Defense has announced that the M-LOK and KeyMod versions of their Omega Rail are now available for order. This rail is a drop in part allowing to have a free floated barrel on your basic pattern AR-15 rifles that originally came with polymer handguards retained by the delta ring and front handguard cap.
Here is how Daniel Defense describes these new handguards:
The Daniel Defense Omega Rail is a premium upgrade to AR’s with plastic handguards and is now available with Picatinny, KeyMod or M-LOK attachment system. Its free-float design allows the individual operator to install it with the Allen wrench provided and requires ZERO modification to the weapon! It features integral QD sling swivel mounts, with rotation limiter, and an uninterrupted upper rail platform. This light weight rail system is meticulously CNC machined from Aircraft Grade Aluminum and is Military Specification Type III Hard Coat Anodized. All the Omega Rail fasteners are military specification.
The way Omega Rails free float the barrel is that they are fixed in place only at the delta ring and don’t come in contact with the front handguard cap. Here is a video demonstrating that feature and the installation procedure.
The new Daniel Defense Omega Rail features a top Picatinny rail and seven rows of KeyMod and M-LOK accessory mounting slots on the sides of its octagonal profile. These handguards are available for carbine (7″ handguard length) and mid-length (9″ handguard) gas systems. The short and long versions of the KeyMod/M-LOK Omega Rail weigh 6.8/6.7 oz and 8.5/8.2 oz respectively. These handguards are 1.85″ wide and 2.14″ high. The internal diameter is 1.325″.
