NEW Chiappa CBR-9 Black Rhino

I didn’t write the type of this firearm in the title because I am not really sure what it is. It is not a pistol, because it has a stock … or is it a brace? WIll they sell it in SBR form only? Or is it an SMG/PDW marketed for the military and LE markets? At any rate, CBR-9 Black Rhino is the new Chiappa firearm that they are going to showcase at the IWA 2019 exhibition.

Recently, GUNSweek reported about a couple of leaked images of this firearm. Several hours ago, Chiappa posted the following image on their Facebook page thus officially announcing it.

    Chiappa CBR-9 Black Rhino

From what we can see in this image and on the images of GUNSweek article, the Chiappa CBR-9 Black Rhino is chambered in 9x19mm and feeds from proprietary magazines. It has a top Picatinny rail and two small rail sections on the handguard. The gun also features a built-in folding foregrip. It is hard to tell whether the birdcage style device at the muzzle is just a barrel shroud or is the barrel ported inside it. The charging handle, magazine release button and safety selector lever are shown on the left side of the gun but I assume some of these parts are reversible. The ejection port is only on the right side. The adjustable minimalistic stock collapses into the lower receiver. CBR-9 also has three rear sling attachment points and one at the very front of the upper receiver.

Chiappa CBR-9 Black Rhino looks to be the rebranded version of the Tanfoglio SMG which we first reported about from EnforceTac 2016 when it was called TCMP.

Later, we saw this Tanfoglio SMG at Indo Defense 2018 where it was called TCPM.

The IWA 2019 will start in a week in Nuremberg, Germany. TFB will be attending the show. We’ll visit the Chiappa booth and find out more about the CBR-9. Stay tuned to learn more about this firearm!
