One of the benefits of the AR15 rifle is how easy it is to operate. Of course, I know this firearm better than any so it’s easy to say.
But I also teach total beginners on the AR15, and can see how fast they learn the controls. The positives is that you can focus on the sights, rather than looking at the controls, until you get a malfunction of some kind that you visually have to examine.
If I switch to one of my hunting rifles I always (Ok, most of the time) have to let go of the grip to maneuver the safety or the magazine release (if there is one). The ergonomics work, but there’s room for improvement.
Night Fision are releasing a new tritium safety, to make it easier to visually check the condition of your rifle in the darkness. Below you can read their description:
BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: Night Fision has created the first ever tritium AR-15 safety selector switch.
The Night Switch™ features a tritium vial so it’s easy to see the position of the safety in low light conditions. It can be used as a training aid and even to locate your rifle in the dark.
Available for purchase in less than two weeks!
The design of the safety is a quarter-turn lock design. There are no other pictures available, and no further description at this time, but it seems that the safety is not ambidextrous (see top picture).
As this is Night Fision’s first appearance on TFB here’s the company’s description

Based in Metro Detroit, Night Fision brings a rich background of automotive engineering, lean manufacturing and expertise in tritium illumination to the firearms industry. Its sister company, Cammenga, is the official manufacturer of the U.S. Army’s Tritium Lensatic Compass and provides them to national militaries around the world. As a result, Night Fision utilizes over 25 years of tritium insertion and military-grade manufacturing expertise to provide the brightest tritium night sights on the market today. The company’s proprietary Perfect Dot®, combined with CNC precision machined bodies and a higher concentration of tritium, allows for the creation of the highest quality pistol night sights with enhanced brightness, all Built in the USA with Swiss Tritium.
My understanding is that Night Fision created this product for the AR15 after several customer requests.
It makes me wonder if anyone requested a tritium magazine release button, or a glowing trigger?
Night Fision can be found at SHOT Show, in two separate booths, #11051 and #15553.
They will display their full line of night sights, as well as their new products like the Novak Cut 1911 sights, AR-15 front posts and the Night Switch described here.
You can find Night Fision’s Homepage here.
What do YOU think? Is this safety something you are looking to buy for your AR15? Please let us know in the comments below.
I think it would be cool if it turned red when the safety is off, but I don’t see how that would be possible with Tritium technology.
