Steyr Arms have announced a new version of their Scout Rifle chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. The new chambering joins the line of light, handy bolt actions. The new 6.5 Creedmoor chambered rifle joins other calibres in the Scout Rifle line which include .223 Remington, 243 Winchester, 7mm-08 Remington, .308 Winchester.

The Scout Rifle was developed by Steyr with the help of legendary Marine Corps Lt. Col. Jeff Cooper and launched the first generation of the Scout Rifle, 20 years ago at the 1998 SHOT Show. Now Steyr say that the latest chambering continues the spirit in which the original rifle was developed.

In a press release Steyr Arms USA’s CED Scott O’Brien discussed what Cooper may have thought about the new chambering:

It can’t be said that Col. Cooper wasn’t a fan of the 6.5 mm, as he wrote about the 6.5 Mannlicher Schoenauer rather longingly. But Col. Cooper never could have expected the amazing performance of the 6.5 Creedmoor, nor could he expect the widespread availability of such a round. We can never know how the Colonel would have felt about chambering his rifle in the 6.5 Creedmoor, but considering its performance and after extensive testing, we think he’d wholeheartedly approve.

Steyr Arms USA shared a couple of photos of the new rifle on their facebook page, to announce the launch of the rifle:

The rifle feeds from a 10 round box magazine and just like the other rifles in the line a spare magazine can be carried in the stock. The rifle has integral folding back up iron sights and a built in bipod. The new rifle has a 19 inch cold hammer forged barrel, fluted and threaded to accept 1/2-20 RH muzzle devices. The barrel has a 1:8 twist. The new Scout Rifles are now available in Black, MUD and OD Green stocks. The 6.5 Creedmore Steyr Scout Rifle has an MSRP of $1,735.00.
