Hornady must have noticed the barrels of ammunition Federal Premium recently produced. The barrels that Federal now sells are either 5.56 NATO with 12,500 rounds or 7.62 NATO with 7,500 rounds! Either in direct competition or just keeping in line with the marketplace, Hornady now has a Frontier Cartridge Barrel with even more 5.56 NATO rounds in it with 13,889 total! While that is an odd number, for sure, you are getting slightly more than the Federal barrel.
So if you did not get what you wanted for Christmas you could always get an unassuming cartridge barrel for yourself for the New Year. The Hornady cartridge barrel of 5.56 NATO can be purchased currently through 3 different online retailers. With each of these retailers, you could get this barrel drop-shipped straight to your front door.
- Graf & Sons (Reloading Authority) – $3,999 | $0.29/round
- Midsouth Shooters Supply – $3,900 | $0.28/round
- Midway USA – $3,999 | $0.29/round
All of this ammunition is manufactured at the Lake City Army Ammunition plant to US Mil-Spec tolerances. In fact, all of the Frontier Cartridge ammunition that is put out by Hornady is loaded at that particular facility. All of this ammo is of the following specifications:
- 5.56x45mm NATO
- 55 Grain FMJ (Full-Metal Jacket)
- 3,240 FPS (Feet per Second)
- 1,282 Ft-Lbs of Energy
While this drum of ammunition would make any shooter happy regardless of the time of year, Hornady had released this festive YouTube video for anyone who had been previously searching for last-minute gift ideas for that sportsman/sportswoman in their life.
While nobody would ever turn down a gift like this, it is quite the price tag to swallow at once if you are buying it for yourself. The price per round is very fair, but the sheer volume would do damage on anyone’s wallet. Is this something you would buy for yourself? Are you generous enough to give this as a gift? Or do you think this will find more of a niche following for brick ‘n mortar retailers, or indoor shooting ranges? Let us know your thoughts in the Comments below! We always appreciate your feedback.
