Review: CTK Ruger Precision Rifle Mag Release Extension – Upgrade for the Ruger Precision Rifle

I’m happy to say this is the first TFB Review in 2019 – I am sure there will be many more during the year.

I wanted an upgrade for my Ruger Precision Rifle – perhaps you know that urge to improve something which is already perfect? Well that urge was there, an itch to scratch.

My rifle is a Generation 1 in 308 Winchester. The rifle works well, I have confirmed hits out to 800 and 900 meters, in strong side-wind, and a Schmidt & Bender on 12x Power maximum. If I feed it the right ammunition and do my thing, the Ruger delivers the rest.

I’m not very handy, anything related to gunsmithing I try to get help from people who know better. But the Magazine Release Extension from CTK seemed easy enough.

I got the part ordered and the install was really easy. The function and look is 100% OEM, I have had no issues at all. The upgrade has been on my rifle since March 2018, so about 11 months of usage.

Here’s how CTK describe their product:

The CTK Ruger Precision Rifle Mag Release Extension makes it possible to operate the magazine release without changing your grip. This ambidextrous extension places the magazine release within the reach of your extended trigger finger, leaving your off hand free to remove and replace the magazine.

The single screw installation of the CTK Ruger Precision Rifle Mag Release Extension (CTK-RPR Mag Release Extension) is fast an easy.

Here’s what the original looks like:

And the original removed, with the upgrade unmounted.

TFB patch. Benchmade Infidel Limited Edition. Green Carpet from Brownells, all great things to have.

Here is a picture of the original. Not bad.

But there is room for improvement – CTK Ruger Precision Rifle Mag Release Extension mounted.

It blends in perfectly. Magpul MOE K2+ is another modification I like.

The rifle looks really dirty in the white light, sorry about that but it’s a user not a safe queen.

    Conclusion

I bought mine with my own money and until now CTK had no idea about this review.

The upgrade is far from needed, but it adds a nice piece to your Ruger and I recommend it. It’s like it’s supposed to have been there from the beginning. It costs 37 USD which is both expensive and okay at the same time, depending on how you value things. Any drawbacks? Can’t really see any. The obvious one would be accidental magazine drops, but I haven’t had any.

If you want to take an extra look please check CTK’s own product page for the item.
