Production/Carry Optics from Shield and Leupold

With the entry of Optics in a lot of Divisions in both USPSA and IPSC (Production, Production Light and Open) more and more shooters are following the red light.

The urge to try something new, aging eye sight…there are many reasons people chose to change from Production or Standard/Limited divisions. Some Open shooter prefer that they don’t have to reload their major ammunition, and just use a normal 9 mm, but still use a good optic.

You can read more about the new rules in IPSC here.

I have yet to find the perfect red dot sight, but there are many good ones out there which are close.

In this article we’ll look at two good options from Shield and Leupold.

Never mind the Surefire on the Glock, but check the Shield RMS on the slide. This is a Glock 17 Gen 4, no MOS so the Shield sits in their adapter in the Glock dovetail.

The Leupold Deltapoint Pro. The adapter plate is from Henning Custom, the Norwegian Viking in the USA. Tanfoglio pistol, Made in Italy.

We’ve covered Henning’s products before, like the contoured grips for the Tanfoglios and CZs.

Henning Shop Scope Mount for Leupold DeltaPoint PRO and Tanfoglio LPA (supersight) style cut. Available for $69.95.

    The description from Henning Shop:

For the guys competing in USPSA Carry Optics or IPSC Production Optics, this is the mount if you have a Tanfoglio AND Leupold DeltaPoint PRO Red Dot Scope.

This is probably the toughest mount on the market. CNC machined from Stainless Steel and lightened for weight. The Mount is secured using 2 set screws plus an additional balancing/vibrational set screw in the back. We also supply nylon plastic flat[tip screws for the back set screw in addition to the steel set screws.

The mount has a built-in taper for maximum elevation adjustment on your DeltaPoint PRO.

GUN MODEL: Tanfoglio STOCK I/II/III, Limited/Pro, Hunter (all Tanfoglio w/ LPA “SuperSight”
    SCOPE MODELS; LEUPOLD DeltaPoint PRO
    WEIGHT: TBD
    MATERIAL: 416 Stainless Steel

NOTE: USPSA Carry Optics does not allow Tanfoglio Stock II/III due to weight restrictions!

It’s always difficult to capture red dots and sights, so take the look of the red dot with a big pinch of salt.

My recommendation is to use a large dot, like 6 to 8 MOA for handguns. You will be able to see the dot easier and shoot early.

These sights have been sitting like this, for training and competition for more than a year. No issues really. These pictures are over 10 months old, from last Winter.

I would prefer to use a Glock 17 MOS, to get the optics lower towards the barrel. However there are no huge issues shooting with the optics like this, although it looks very high.

You can find the Glock Mount for the Shield RMS/SMS here.

New rear sight replacement polymer mount. The closest you can get to the slide without cutting or having a MOS ready Glock.

This mount fits best with the RMS, SMS or Jpoint.

Simply remove rear iron sights, slide in the packaged receiver and screw down the sight to the mount and receiver.

    And Leupold Deltapoint Pros here.

HereĀ“s a very cool POV video of the Leupold Deltapoint Pro, courtesy of sal_gunz on Instagram.
