The US Army’s Contracting Command has awarded SIG Sauer a major five year contract to provide commercial off the shelf rifles and pistols to be fulfilled by 2023. The commercial off the shelf contract is likely for foreign military sales as it includes numerous weapon systems not currently adopted by the US military.

The contract is valued as $13,400,000 and will be paid from the Army’s Fiscal 2018 operations and maintenance Army funds. SIG Sauer’s press release does not give too much detail on what is included in the contract but does state the award includes SIG Sauer’s MCX Rifles, the MPX submachine gun, the 7.62x51mm SIG 716G2 DMR rifle and SP2022 Pistols.

The contract also includes firearms accessories including various uppers, threaded barrels and magazines. Suppressors and an undisclosed number of SIG’s ruggedised TANGO6 series riflescopes are also included in the contract.

Ron Cohen, SIG Sauer’s President and CEO, said in the press release announcing the contract:

This is a very exciting announcement for SIG SAUER and we are extremely proud that the U.S. Army has selected SIG SAUER products for this award. For this contract, the U.S. Army has identified a wide array of SIG SAUER product including pistols, rifles, optics, and suppressors. We are extremely humbled that they have recognized our ability to meet the broad scope and demands of this contract while recognizing the quality and versatility of our products for the battlefield.

The Department of Defense’s contract announcement page gives us a little more information on the contract:

Sig Sauer Inc., Newington, New Hampshire, was awarded a $13,400,000 firm-fixed-price contract for various Sig Sauer firearm systems. Bids were solicited via the internet with one received. Work will be performed in Newington, New Hampshire, with an estimated completion date of Dec. 1, 2023. Fiscal 2018 operations and maintenance Army funds in the amount of $13,400,000 were obligated at the time of the award. U.S. Army Contracting Command, New Jersey, is the contracting activity (W15QKN-19-D-0011).

The contract is scheduled for completion back December 2023, with all work to take place at SIG Sauer’s Newington factory.
