There is very little we enjoy more than hearing about new firearms around Christmas time. Just be sure to not shoot your eye out! Mossberg has been tinkering around their workshop and they have 3 NEW Shockwave models for us as we near 2019. One is the Nightstick with more classical wood furniture. Another is the Shock ‘N’ Saw which looks like a zombie killer’s wet dream. The last new model is the Shockwave SPX lending similar traits as those found on the full-frame SPX shotguns from Mossberg.

What all of these models share is the fact that they are built on the 590 design, feature a 26.37″ overall length, and have a bird’s head grip allowing them their special non-NFA classification. Some of the other highlights are as follows:

  • 14″ Heavy-Walled, Cylinder Bore Barrel w/ Single Brass Bead Sight
  • Non-Binding Twin Action Bars
  • Positive Steel-to-Steel Lock-Up
  • Anti-Jam Elevator
  • Dual Extractors
  • Ambidextrous Top-Mounted Safety
  • Convenient Magazine Clean-Out Cap
  • Drilled & Tapped Anodized Aluminum Receiver
  • Sling Swivel Studs

While there are a slew of overlapping characteristics among these new models there is still quite a bit that differentiates them. Let’s take a look at each new model individually and see which one might tempt your wallet the most.

Mossberg 590 shockwave Nightstick 12 Gauge (Non-NFA)

This new model of the Mossberg Shockwave will be a Talo Distributors exclusive. It features a matte blue finished receiver, and a magazine tube that will hold 5 rounds plus 1 in the chamber. The furniture central to this shotgun is the wood bird’s head grip, wood corncob forearm, and leather strap. The current MSRP for the Mossberg 590 Shockwave Nightstick 12 Gauge is $539.

This new offering boasts a matte black barrel with a breacher muzzle and a matching black anodized receiver. It also totes a standard Shockwave Technologies Raptor polymer bird’s head grip. To cap it off it is covered with a heatshield, aluminum side saddle and a top-mounted picatinny rail. The Mossberg 590 Shockwave SPX 12 Gauge retails for $560.

Mossberg 590 shockwave Shock ‘N’ Saw 12 Gauge (Non-NFA)

Similar to the SPX, the Shock ‘N’ Saw has a breacher muzzle with the same finish and patented grip. A unique upgrade to this shorty shotgun is an aluminum M-LOK®-equipped forend. To crown that forend is a signature Mossberg chainsaw foregrip to up the ante and the fun. This model is currently benchmarked for $560.
