When high-end gun makers team up with luxury manufacturers from other industries, the result is always something incredible like the watches made by Holland & Holland and F.P. Journe that we talked about earlier. Today we’ll tell you about the collaboration of James Purdey & Sons and Montblanc which resulted in the creation of luxury writing accessories series called Meisterstück Great Masters Collection.

The Montblanc x Purdey Meisterstück Great Masters Collection includes three pens, a notebook, a game register, ink bottle, and cufflinks. Perhaps the most interesting accessories of this series are the pens which are made of engraved metal and checkered walnut resembling the deluxe Purdey hunting arms.

Two of the pens in this collection are largely identical in terms of appearance and overall design and differ by having fountain and rollerball mechanisms. Both pens are made of walnut with Purdey checkering, metal inlays, and ruthenium-coated fittings.

The fountain pen costs £2,615 (about $3,350) and the rollerball version is priced at £2,530 ($3,240). The third one is a limited edition Purdey & Montblanc pen called Meisterstück Great Masters Limited Edition 81 which will cost its owner £28,000 ($35,860)! The description of this limited edition pen is quoted below.

The limitation number of the Meisterstück Great Masters Limited Edition 81 marks the year 1881, when Purdey moved to Audley House in London’s Mayfair and where it is still situated to this day. With a nod to gun design, the cap is secured with a safety and the clip is styled as a top lever. The white solid gold cap has been intricately engraved by hand with a Large Scroll pattern and enhanced with a solid yellow gold inlay of two flying red grouse. Blackening, a technique shared by both Montblanc and Purdey highlights the beauty of the metal engraving and adds depth to the elegant design. The gold of the cap contrasts with the Turkish walnut wood of the barrel, decorated with chequering and hand applied finishes.

Indeed, these accessories are true masterpieces and I am sure they will be desirable items for any enthusiast of luxury firearms. Of course, these are expensive … like any other work of art.
