[Indo Defense 2018] MKE’s KPT-76 Designated Marksman’s Rifle

At Indo Defense 2018 this year we at TFB were able to get a hands-on examination of MKE’s KNT-76 Designated Marksman Rifle. The rifle is an upgraded MPT-76 service rifle that has a number of additional design features to increase its accuracy and precision as a squad level DMR rifle. Currently, there aren’t any in service with the Turkish Land Forces, but this is because the rifle hasn’t entered circulation yet. In addition, it appears that only MKE is producing the KNT-76, unlike the MPT-76 which is manufactured by three different Turkish arms companies; MKE, Kales, and Sarsilmaz. However, there have been modified MPT-76s that are in service with Turkish Land Forces, but these are armory level modifications.

In brochures, MKE states that the rifle is accurate to 1.5 MOA. At the show it had a 3E EOS Keskin 3-12×50 mounted to the optics rail. The Keskin was seen at IWA 2018 and is akin to a Turkish budget version of the Schmidt & Bender PM II 3–12×50. It was seen with 35 MOA scope rings. When asked, the MKE attendants said that that the barrel is essentially a match grade barrel mounted in place of the standard barrel. The third difference between the KNT-76 and the MPT-76 is externally in that it has an MPT-76 handguard with a tan finish but also with an integrated flip up front iron sight (the MPT-76’s front iron sight is integrated to the gas block). In addition, the telescoping stock is different from the MPT-76 and is an M4-patterned 5-position push button stock whereas the MPT-76 is a 12-position and uses a push/twist/pull mechanism to adjust the stock for the length of pull.

Note the cheekpiece adjustment, also the dual sling swivel options with the push tab on the right and the sling on the left.-Miles V, Indo Defense 2018
