Review: King Competition – Magnetic Shell Picker
Nokia – associated with mobile phones, telecommunications and tires ( Nokian) – but the town in Finland it’s also the home of King Competition Products Oy (Inc.)
The company is run by the Benelli shooter Kim Leppänen, you can see him shoot the Russian Maxim with me here, and they have some clever products mainly for competitive shooters.

The magnetic shell picker is such a product. It saved me and my buddies a lot of time as we have to clean the shooting range once we’re done for the day. Some brass on the gravel is typically not an issue, but shotgun shells are a mess.
From King’s description:
Don’t waste your training time and break your back picking up hulls. With the MSP magnetic shell picker the stage clean up is easy.
The high strength magnet is capable of picking up of maximum 50 shells (99kg version) or 40 shells (66kg version). The MSP has a spring return ejector system that will drop the empty shells to the trash bin when you push the handle downwards.
When you press the point downwards to collect more hulls, they will climb up the high strength magnet head. Allowing you to use the whole capacity if you choose to do so.
The MSP is also awesome with steel cased rifle, or pistol ammo!
Here are a few pictures of the shell picker in work this summer.

We store these shell pickers on the inside of our shooting range container. As they are magnetic we can just hang them on the wall.
They are priced from 93 Euros, about 100 USD, which I think is a fair price. Our shooting club bought two, and we can sweep a large area in no time at all, without too much hassle. While your buddy is reloading or shooting you can clean the range from empty shotgun shells.
We don’t really shoot any steel cased ammunition, but I’m sure it would work fine.
They seem out of stock at the moment, but I can highly recommend this product if you shoot a lot of shotgun and have to clean up afterwards.
The more effective you can be at the range the better, some pay by the hour including the cleaning. It also saves your back and knees, as you can pick the shells standing.
Bottom line – This is a product I recommend. Strong design and very easy to use. Saves time and your body. I can’t really see any weak points with this product.
King also make the Short Action Bars for Benelli Supernova & Nova which TFB covered earlier.

Note that most plastic hull shotshells have used steel heads since their introduction. The steel head is merely plated to look like brass. Solvents leaching from the plastic corroded all-brass heads.
