Probably the most interesting accessories that we saw during the Arms & Hunting 2018 exhibition were the AK upgrade parts introduce by a company called L.A.C. (L. A. Customs). This is a fairly new and small company yet it makes really cool products. In this article, we’ll take a brief look at two adjustable AK gas blocks made by this company.
L.A.C. REX-AK Adjustable Gas Block
Designed for AKM pattern rifles, this adjustable gas block is quite simple, yet provides a wide range of adjustability. It has seven gas port size positions including one that completely shuts the gas port off. The adjustment knob is fixed in the chosen position via a spring loaded plunger – similar to how the AK muzzle devices are retained.
As you can see, this is a gas block/front sight block combination part. The gas block itself is made from steel and the adjustment drum is made of stainless steel. The inside surface of the gas block is chrome lined, however, the company officials told me that they may switch to titanium nitride finish.
The L. A. Customs REX-AK gas block is serviceable. The company suggests to completely disassemble it for cleaning only after 2,000 or 3,000 rounds fired. For a less round count, you can just clean it as if it was a standard gas block.
The REX-AK gas block is listed on the company’s website at a price point of 7,800 Russian rubles which is roughly equal to $120. According to the company officials, it should not be a problem to order from the USA.
L. A. Customs REX-125 Adjustable Gas Block
This is the second adjustable gas block brought by L. A. Customs to the show. This one is designed for Veprs and other Molot rifles that have a 20mm barrel diameter at the gas block mounting portion.
This gas block has a low profile design and lacks the front sight. It was primarily designed for the competition shooting market. Both L. A. Customs gas blocks are installed by sliding over the barrel, positioning correctly and clamping them in place via the hex screws.
The Rex-125 is made of stainless steel. The internal surfaces are unfinished and externally it is painted black. This gas block is guaranteed to withstand 50,000 rounds fired.
The price of the Rex-125 gas block is identical to that of the previous one.
This category of small companies founded by true gun enthusiasts is the one that I like the most. In every firearm exhibition, you can notice that the most innovative products are introduced by such companies.
