The wait for an FN SCAR MK20 SSR package is nearly over. For years SCAR owners have been asking for a SCAR MK20. The fixed precision stock with adjustable length of pull and cheek rest, 20” barrel and extended M1913 Picatinny Rail have been showed extensively at trade shows but are essentially “unobtainium” on the civilian market. FN America has now publicly released a statement that they will be selling 200 limited edition SCAR 20S packages. The bundle will have an MSRP of $5,499.

Description

The FN SCAR 20S will be in 7.62x51mm like its SCAR 17 predecessor. It will weigh in at 11.2 lbs and have a length of 40.6-42.5″ with a 20″ barrel. Like the 17, it will also have a short-stroke gas piston system and will come in a Flat Dark Earth finish. The charging handle can also be swapped between the right and left sides.

Upgrades and Changes

One big upgrade is that it is also going to come standard with a factory installed Geissele Super SCAR trigger. The long-awaited 20” barrel will also be a cold hammer-forged, chrome-lined free floating barrel with a flash hider. The rail also extends out providing significantly greater M1913 rail space at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock positions. Looking at the pistol grip we also notice the standard A2 style grip has been swapped out for a HOGUE pistol grip with finger grooves.

Opinion

It is great to see FN listening to their customers even if it has taken a while. The Geissele Super SCAR trigger is a staple and often the first upgrade added. I am glad to see this being part of such an iconic bundle. Not including a scope was a smart choice as that is often a very custom feature that each individual will want to choose on their own. It also helps keep the price down as much as possible. Is the price reasonable? That depends greatly on the individual. Personally, I am not a collector. Coins, patches and limited editions mean little to me. However, I do think that this is a great rifle platform and has some very real advantages for certain applications.
