Building on the success of the G19X, GLOCK has released a new crossover hybrid that brings the form factor of the MHS submission along with a blend of Gen5 and “summer series” features. Christened the G45 and referred to as the Ultimate Service Pistol, Austria and Smyrna are taking aim at a law enforcement market that has been clamoring for a black G19X. But the G45 is not just a colorized version of a prior release – it both adds and removes features that shooters have been requesting from previous GLOCK releases.
NEW GLOCK! G45 First Shots – The Ultimate Service Pistol
Fresh from the mothership just a few days ago, I’ve have just two magazines through the G45. And I’ve got some exciting news: it’s a GLOCK. Based on the frame of the G19X, this new handgun has the same grip angle, trigger, lack of a manual safety and other features that I love about these workhorses. I will say that the full-size grip with a G19 slide is my favorite pistol to date. If you have yet to pick up a G19X, and in a few weeks the G45, the ergonomics may surprise you.
One of the most notable additions to the G45 is the front slide serrations. Shooters now have front and back matching sets of groves for extra grip during slide manipulations.
The G45 also features the Gen5 flared magazine well rather than the G19X’s front toe that precludes it from using the new pest generation of magazine baseplates. Instead, GLOCK has removed the front strap cutout found on previous Gen5 pistols. The cutout was my one gripe about the finger groove-less guns: my pinky always seemed to work it’s way into that little nook.
Overall, the G45 appears to be a fantastic addition to the GLOCK lineup. Law enforcement agencies who have been holding out will be pleased – they get their Black G19X with benefits. And shooters will also be happy: the most recent version of GLOCK Perfection has arrived. MSRP has yet to be announced.
Stay tuned for additional information as I get additional rangetime with the G45.
