BOTW: “Dodongo”, The AR Pistol

The tenth Installment of Build of the Week was contributed by Hoplopfheil.  So long as you are not clearing a room with a teammate, loud and massive muzzle flashes are fun. I am definitely becoming more and more a fan of AR/AK “pistols” as time goes on, especially if I can suppress them. Extra points to Hoplopfheil for naming his weapons; all true weapons should be named…

In any case, keep the submissions coming in!  We are publishing them in the order in which they were received (with the exception of a single person submitting back to back–those will get spread out).

You can submit your own build at https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/build-of-the-week-submission/

    AR Pistol “Dodongo”

This started as an attempt to make the cheapest possible AR pistol, but then it evolved into a test bed for various interesting parts. Current configuration:

    Barrel: 7.5″ AR Stoner .223 Wylde 1:7

    Upper & Lower: Anderson

Handguard: UTG Pro Super Slim 7″

    Lower Furniture:

-Magpul K grip and trigger guard, OD Green

-KAK Shockwave Blade tube and pistol brace, OD Green

    Charging Handle: BCM Gunfighter

Sights: UTG Pro flip up irons

Optic: Truglo Tru-Tec 20mm red dot (sometimes)

    Muzzle: Doublestar Carlson TacComp

This thing is loud and ridiculous; the muzzle flash is longer than the gun itself, but it’s so fun and handy that I shoot it more than my other ARs.

Comment below to ask Hoplopfheil questions about his build.

Tom is a former Navy Corpsman that spent some time bumbling around the deserts of Iraq with a Marine Recon unit, kicking in tent flaps and harassing sheep. Prior to that he was a paramedic somewhere in DFW, also doing some Executive Protection work between shifts. Now that those exciting days are behind him, he teaches wilderness medicine and runs an on-demand medical staffing business. He hopes that his posts will help you find solid gear that will survive whatever you can throw at it–he is known (in certain circles) for his curse…ahem, ability…to find the breaking point of anything.
