FMJ pistol ammo has probably killed more than HP,
It would not be my first choice but I would not feel any more defenseless if I had FMJ in my pistol over premium HPs.
    HP gives a slight advantage

FMJ bullets do have their place in self-defense. Not my first choice, but sometimes you need bullet penetration to get to vital organs. An expanding bullet doesn't do much good if it can't get deep enough into the body to damage vital organs. Heavy clothing, body fat, etc. can stop an expanding bullet before it can get to the vitals. Obviously, shot placement is the key with any pistol caliber. It's always a trade off. I use FMJ's in my Ruger LC9 because I am confident that they will penetrate any type of clothing or body type far enough to do some lethal damage. I also practice for close-in heads shots.
