Italian ammunition manufacturer Baschieri & Pellagri has introduced a new 12 gauge slug load which is primarily designed for wild boar hunting. The new ammunition is called White Blackout. This ammunition was designed to provide an off-the-shelf slug load that is accurate and provides both deep penetration and maximum expansion. Let’s watch the video introducing this slug then go through its specs.
As mentioned in the video, in order to make these slugs accurate and very effective on the target, they made some design changes in the Baschieri & Pellagri slug construction. Particularly, they have experimented with antimony percentages to find an alloy with the desired characteristics. The hollow point of the slug ensures its expansion while the ring around the hollow point is designed to provide deep enough penetration to instantly drop the game animal.
The Baschieri & Pellagri White Blackout slugs weigh one ounce and they have a relatively high muzzle velocity of 575 m/s (1,886 fps). The animated graph on the companies website shows the pressure curve where the maximum pressure is 930 bar which is equal to about 13,500 psi. Here is also a chart showing the velocity and energy of this slug at various distances of its travel.
According to the description in the video, 12 outside flutes along with the special sabot are designed to provide the high level of accuracy. The white color of these slugs is due to a coating which is advertised to reduce the friction and decrease the level of lead fouling in the bore. The coating is also said to contribute to increasing the accuracy and consistency of White Blackout slugs.
The Baschieri & Pellagri White Blackout ammunition comes loaded in 2 3/4″ shells. Currently, this ammunition is not listed on the company’s website dedicated to US sales. We’ll update this article as soon as these loads become available for the US customers.
