Ballistic Advantage has introduced a new AR-15 upper and lower receiver set. The company calls this product Enhanced Receiver Set. Although these receivers may look like billet ones, they are actually made of custom forgings. As the company says, these receivers: “deliver billet aesthetics in a forged package“.
Ballistic Advantage Enhanced upper and lower receivers are made of 7075 T6 aluminum. The lower receiver has a slightly different exterior design lines and an integrated trigger guard. The magazine well of this lower receiver is flared to aid guiding the magazines and make the magazine insertion an easier and faster process.
The lower receiver of this set also has a nylon tipped upper receiver tensioning set screw located in the grip tang. The tensioning screw allows eliminating the receiver slack between the two receivers ensuring a tight fit. This feature should be especially handy when using upper receivers made by other manufacturers. The lower receiver of this set is also designed and marked to take short throw safety selectors although it will work with the standard ones, too. In fact, despite having some custom features both receivers are compatible with mil-spec AR-15 components and receivers. The Ballistic Advantage Enhanced Upper Receiver also features M4 feed ramps and laser engraved T-marks on the top Picatinny rail.
Another difference of Ballistic Advantage Enhanced Receiver Set is the existence of threaded pin holes and use of threaded pins. Such a design solution is incorporated to make the assembly an easier process. Below you can find the list of the areas where threaded pins are used (quoted from the manufacturer’s website.
- Threaded Bolt Catch Roll Pin – Allows for simple installation of the bolt catch and virtually eliminates the chance to damage the finish during installation (pin included).
- Threaded Takedown Pin Detent Recess – Allows user to easily install the Takedown Pin detent and spring with the use of a 4-40 set screw (no more launching detents across the room).
- Threaded Forward Assist Roll Pin – Allows for simple installation of the forward assist and eliminates the chance to damage the finish during installation (pin included).”
Ballistic Advantage Upper Receiver Set is listed on the company’s website at an MSRP of $194.99, but right now it is discounted to $155.99. The upper and lower receivers are also available separately at discounted prices of $95.99 and $75.99 respectively.
