If you are a fan of the CZ Scorpion, the Sig MPX, pistol caliber AR15’s, or short barrel gas guns you will most likely be a fan of the new Gear Head Works Tail Hook. The MOD One is a stand-alone end plate for your AR15 style pistol stock. The MOD two is a complete kit including proprietary buffer tube and the stock with built-in Tail Hook.

Machined from solid billet aluminum and hard coat anodized, the Gear Head Works Tail Hook replaces your standard stock and provides a slick look. It is also very functional. When opened up the Tail Hook contacts the shooter’s wrist and forearm allowing one-handed operation of the firearm. Or in the case of the photo here, two-handed in the same manner as shooting any other pistol.

mod 2 tube – Joel

The Gear Head Works Tail Hook MOD2 uses a proprietary 5 position adjustable buffer tube. This keeps the consumer from accidentally breaking the “constructive intent” laws of the ATF. Here is some of what the ATF has to say on the matter: A firearm, as defined by 26 U.S.C. 5845(a)(4), is made when a handgun or other weapon with an overall length of fewer than 26 inches, or a barrel or barrels of less than 16 inches in length, is assembled or produced from a weapon originally assembled or produced only as a rifle.

In layman’s terms, and I am no lawyer, this means you can’t take a rifle and attach the Tail Hook to it because you would be turning your rifle into a pistol. At the very least the action of doing this would be considered “intent”. If your firearm was designed by the manufacturer to be a rifle it needs to remain a rifle. The same goes for pistols. The remainder of the law as it is written can be found here https://www.atf.gov/firearms/docs/ruling/2011-4-pistols-configured-rifles-rifles-configured-pistols/download

The MOD One version from Gear Head Works mounts to any commercial or MIL standard buffer tube. It uses a “scope ring” style collar and clamps down via two recessed screws. Both versions of the Tail Hook open up with the use of a push button style detent. The operation is quick and easy.

The Tail Hook MOD Two retails for $199.99 and comes in black, flat dark earth, and OD Green. The MOD One retails for $119.00 and is anodized black.

This is what happens when you take to long to come to market.

SB Tactical will leave a steaming dump on your chest. Nice try though

@Timmah_timmah It's still rubber. This is hard polymer.

I have two Tailhooks (mod 1 on Evo, and mod 2 on an AR). I have also tried SB and KAK. Tailhook is the best *stock* on the market right now. SB arguably "stabilizes" better, but who cares?

Folks I apologize for some of the confusion on NFA laws. I did post a link to the complete law as it's written so you can determine for yourselves what it says. You need an advanced degree to understand this stuff. I did my best to understand what the owner of the TailHook was telling me about the laws.
