If you did not have the opportunity to visit Springfield Armory at SHOT Show in the convention center, they had a sprawling booth with enough firearms to make you contemplate getting a 2nd job. From 1911s to 911s to XD(M)s to AR-15s to M1As, they had their square footage amply covered. We at TFB gave you a healthy sampling of the handguns they have new rolling into 2018 in a previous article so in this piece we will cover their rifles. The big headliners are Springfield Armory’s top-tier AR-15 in the SAINT Edge, their 1st offering of an AR-15 pistol in an iteration of a SAINT and new chamberings of the 6.5 Creedmoor in M1A rifles.

The popularity of AR-15 pistols has risen quite dramatically over the past 4-5 years with people employing arm braces in various fashions (we won’t tell you how to use them…) creating for fun recreation and even utility in self-defense. Most AR-15 pistols on the market come from small, niche companies so to see a household name like Springfield Armory make one is truly telling as to how the market is trending.

The SAINT AR-15 pistol features an M-LOK Aluminum, Free Float Handguard with Forward Hand Stop. Between this and a lot of the Bravo Company furniture that Springfield Armory employs on this pistol, it gives the shooter better dexterity and control in this AR-15 platform.

This pistol also has a Nickel Boron coated trigger which is very smooth for a factory AR-15 pistol. All SAINT firearms from Springfield Armory has their exclusive Accu-Tite™ tension system which eliminates slop between the upper and lower receiver. This is a feature that is integrally built into the lower.

A final keynote spec on this firearm is the proprietary blast diverter affixed to the muzzle. This directs all of the gases, debris and a significant portion of the noise forward of the shooter and his/her range buddies.

The SAINT Edge rifle within the family of SAINT AR-15s by Springfield Armory is their most premium offering to date. It boasts a billet receiver machined 7075 T6 aircraft-grade aluminum giving you a supremely strong base. Inside is a modular match, short-reset, Melonite-treated GI single stage trigger. The enhancements on that trigger are a mouth-full, but in short, it is a stiflingly nice trigger out of a factory rifle.

The barrel has a Mid Length gas system, Low Profile Multi/Mode Adjustable Gas Block and uses a 1 in 8″ twist rate for a 5.56x45mm NATO chambering. To cap it off, there is a Springfield Armory Multi-Port Muzzle Brake to keep muzzle rise down when executing fast, successive shots on target.

Other more simple, but quality enhancements are the use of Bravo Company furniture, an M-LOK free-float handguard and rugged metal, Springfield Armory iron sights. All of which make for a great complete rifle package that comes with a hard case.

If you have not heard, the 6.5 Creedmoor caliber is starting to become kind of a big deal. Like, everyone wants to shoot it and own it in their favorite rifle platforms. So why not get a 6.5 Creedmoor in the stalwart M1A.

The MSRP of the Black Composite M1A Loaded is $1,985 while the Black and FDE Precision Adjustable Stock M1A Loaded models retail out at $2,045.
