[SHOT 2018] Sol Invictus Arms TAC-9 Pistol

At the range day of SHOT Show 2018, a company called Sol Invictus Arms has introduced a 9mm pistol called TAC-9. It is inspired by the TEC-9, which was a similar weapon designed in the mid-’80s by George Kellgren. The TAC-9 has the same overall layout and is a blowback operated firearm too. The main difference is the new lower receiver designed by Sol Invictus Arms.

The new lower receiver is made of aluminum and it has AR-15 style layout. It also takes AR-15 grips and buffer tubes. Another feature that has become a must for modern pistols (PCCs) of this type is the compatibility with Glock magazines.

The buffer tube portion of the lower receiver is installed separately and has two options. As shown in the following three images, you can install either a blind end cover to make it a more compact package, or install the AR-15 buffer tube compatible one to allow installation of AR pistol buffer tubes and braces. The installation of these tail pieces is as simple as dropping them into the slot in the lower receiver, aligning the holes and threading in the two screws.

The version that they brought to the SHOT Show was a prototype. There will probably be some minor design changes in the final product such as the different height of iron sights. According to the company officials, this pistol will be available in summer 2018. The price for this pistol should be around $600 to $750.
