POTD: Norwegian Home Guard HK MP5

Today’s Photo is the Heckler & Koch MP5, as used by the Norwegian Home Guard.

The Norwegian Armed Forces introduced this Heckler & Koch MP5 9x19mm sub-machine gun in the 1980s.

They are using two versions, the A2N with permanent stock and the A3N with an adjustable stock.

Eventually, it will be replaced by the MP7. I guess that’s the sort of luxury you can afford when your Nation strikes Oil and gas.

Below: The insignia HV stands for Heimevern, or Home Guard.

Below: Training at the shooting range. The old design still has a lot of energy in it, just like the shooters.

Heckler & Koch MP5

Manufacturer: Heckler & Koch, Germany
Length: 490–680 mm
Weight, unloaded: 2.54 kg / 2.88 kg
Calibre: 9 x 19 mm
Magazine capacity: 15–30
Muzzle velocity: Approximately 400 m/s
Rate of fire: 13–14 shots per second

According to Wikipedia, the MP5 is mostly replaced by the MP7. But the HK MP5 is still in service with the Norwegian Special Forces and the Norwegian Home Guard. It’s the latter we can see in the pictures.

If you wanted to know why the robbers at Nakatomi Plaza were using MP5s, there you go.

does Norway still use the G3 for it's reserves/home guard? I believe that their G3s were up-graded for their reserves/home guard years ago
