Today is December the 6:th and Finland’s Independence Day, a national public holiday to celebrate Finland’s declaration of independence from the Russian Republic in 1917.
Today is also one hundred years since that original declaration and I suspect the festivities are already over going into hang overs in some places.
The “Unknown soldier 2017” – or “Tuntematon sotilas” as it’s called in its original language Finnish – is a a film adaptation of Väinö Linna’s best selling novel The Unknown Soldier from 1954.
Unfortunately the Internet Movie Firearms Database doesn’t have the new 2017 film up yet, but in terms of firearms you can expect to see Lahti L-35 pistols, Luger pistols, MP40s, M/27 and M/28 rifles, Mosin Nagant rifles, PPSh-41, PPD-40, MG 08, and Maxim PM M1910s.
I’m pretty sure there will be home made mines and Molotov Cocktails in there as well.
THE FILM
Unknown Soldier by Mr. Aku Louhimies is the story of an infantry unit’s tour of duty that lasts for more than three years during the Finnish Continuation War. The film is based on the classic novel by VÄINÖ LINNA. The film is the story of Rokka, Kariluoto, Koskela, Hietanen, and their brothers-in-arms. It shows how friendship, humour, and the will to live unite these men on their way there and back. The war changes the lives of each of the soldiers as well as the lives of those on the home front, and also leaves its mark on the entire nation.

I haven’t had the pleasure to see the film yet, but it’s got a 8.4/10 grade out of IMDb.
