Captain France Using Universal Shield

Saw this odd video. Well I say odd, but I call it clown shoes. A French instructor, who I dub as Captain France, is demonstrating how to utilize the Universal Shield while using a handgun.

I particularly enjoyed his fumbling of a mag reload.

The Universal Shield has an odd shape with a lot of cut outs. It appears that the cut outs are designed based on how one manipulates the shield with a weapon. The cut outs allow a weapon to be supported by the shield. I will be honest, I am not part of a SWAT team and so I do not understand the pitfalls of using a shield with a weapon but these seem gimmicky to me. Anyone have experience working with shields and weapons?

Anytime you gotta carry a shield, you're a bullet sponger. Shooting from it, just spray & pray. No one on the team expects the shielder to be making head shots.
