Discreet Ballistics .300 AAC Blackout 188gr Subsonic Load

Discreet Ballistics has introduced new subsonic .300 AAC Blackout loads for hunting and defensive use. The cartridges are loaded with 188 gr expanding machined copper projectiles called Selous. The bullets are specifically designed to expand at subsonic velocities (750 fps and higher). They also load these cartridges differently depending on the barrel length of the customer’s rifle. They call it Two Load System.

The Two Load System offers loads optimised for 7-11″ barrels and 16″ barrels. According to Discreet Ballistics, the shorter barrels result in significant velocity loss (about 200 fps). This kind of optimisation allows having a maximum (subsonic) muzzle velocity and muzzle energy as well as least amount of drop at a given distance. For more information concerning the advantages of this two-load system click here.

Here is a ballistic table showing the amount of drop and velocity loss at various distances.

The company states that they’ve tested these loads with different length gas systems and with suppressors. Discreet Ballistics loads these cartridges with Lapua brass and to a muzzle velocity of 1050 fps. These loads are available for pre-order at an MSRP of $39.99 per a box of 20. They will start shipping them by the end of the year.
