Springfield Armory recently announce the company was building the Saint AR-style rifle with flat dark earth (FDE) furniture. The new gun is similar to the base model, but with the polymer handguard, stock and pistol grip with the FDE color. The barrel, receivers and other metal parts keep the black finish.
As with the original rifle, this gun is chambered for the 5.56 NATO cartridge. It has a 16″ barrel with a 1:8″ twist and M4 style feed ramps. The gun is direct impingement with a mid length gas system. Up front is a front sight tower while the company uses a folding aperture sight in the rear.
Compared to other AR rifles in this range, there are a few nice add ons. For example, the trigger is nickel boron coated. Also, Springfield Armory has a tension device to remove slop between the upper and lower receivers.
The FDE furniture is provided by Bravo Company. The stock is adjustable with six different positions to match your desired length of pull. The pistol grip is a Mod 3. The handguard is a drop in style design with KeyMod attachment points. Like the base model rifle, this gun weighs in at 6 pounds 11 ounces (unloaded) and has a suggested retail price of $899.
