Springfield Armory’s 2017 New Products | SHOT 2017

Springfield Armory debuted 6 new products for 2017 at SHOT Show. They had a really nice, large booth  that was packed with people throughout the show. New products include the SAINT 5.56 AR-15 (technically debuted late last year), EMP4 Concealed Carry Contour 1911, TRP Operator Tactical Gray 1911, XD MOD.2 4″ Service Model in .45 ACP, EMP Black Armory Kote 1911 and the XD MOD.2 5″ Tactical Model in .45 ACP. I had to opportunity to handle most of these on the show floor and at Industry Day at the Range.

EMP4 Conceal Carry Contour 1911. I found this to be an awesome pistol. The edges have been “de-horned” and the butt of the pistol would carry well tucked against the body. Though a more compact 1911, I would have no problems running this gun like a full size 1911. The grip felt good, the fiber optic front sight allows for easy low-light operation.

TRP Operator Tactical Gray 1911. Gray is the new black. Awesome pistol. I am going to have my Editor get me one of these to review. Slide was smooth. Trigger was crisp and it was heavy like every 1911 I have ever held. I liked the adjustable sights and the MIL-STD/1913 Picatinny rail.

The SAINT 5.56 Ar-15. My colleague Patrick R got to attend a press junket where he spent several days evaluating the firearm late last year. Patrick R has a legit armorer certification and he had a high opinion of The SAINT. I think that Springfield did a good job with this rifle. Though not “Milspec” the parts and assembly are definitely “military grade”. Pat’s awesome review can be found here.

All in all, Springfield Armory added six new products to its already impressive suite of firearms. Like everything else Springfield does, the execution was impressive and well thought out. I am a big fan of the XDM line. Though a tad late, I am glad they brought an AR-15 to the market, and used decent furniture. We look forward to see where they are taking the SAINT line.
