Taccom’s Heavy PCC Carbine Recoil System

Taccom, known for their competition oriented offerings including shotgun shell caddies, ultra-light weight buffer systems, and a plethora of magazine extension kits, has turned their attention to the red-hot pistol caliber carbine market with their latest buffer system, the Heavy PCC Carbine Recoil System.

Almost all pistol caliber carbine systems are blowback operation based, which means they require weight to offset the recoil forces generated by the cartridge to function correctly. Given that most PCC’s are AR-15 based, the additional weight has to come from the buffer, presenting additional issues.

    1. The standard AR-15 buffer is designed around a rotating bolt that sits forward of the carrier body. When using a standard carbine buffer, PCC’s have a tendency to break bolt-catches. With the extra travel, they have more force and slam into the catches.
    2. Difficulty getting to the weight required to slow down the action. “H3” buffers (those with 3 tungsten weights) only get to 5.4 ounces.

The Taccom Heavy PCC Carbine Recoil System looks to address both of these. The primary buffer weight is solid billet clocking in at 6.2 ounces and includes a spacer to take up the additional travel space in a common carbine receiver extension.

Those interested in trying the system out can pick it up directly from Taccom on their website. Retail pricing is set at $29.95, which is substantially less than the base cost for an H3 buffer.
