Muzzle Device Adapter for AK-47 from MSP

    MSP MDA

Mounting Solutions Plus announced a new device that will allow a shooter to thread typical US made muzzle devices to the typical AK-47/AKM rifle chambered in 7.62×39.

The new Muzzle Device Adapter, or MDA, screws onto the rifle’s threaded muzzle and a muzzle device can then be threaded onto the adapter. Although the company does not explicitly say so, it appears the ‘US threads’ are 5/8-24.

The company states that the MDA and any muzzle devices must be installed by a “competent gunsmith or armorer.” The company’s main concern seems to be with a bullet striking the muzzle device with the adapter in place. That seems like a reasonable concern considering the wide variety of AK platform guns on the market (are the threads all true?) and the large number of possible .30 caliber muzzle devices on the market.

The company states that all muzzle devices must be bored to at least .348″ for use with a .308 caliber projectile. While the use of any flash hider, compensator or muzzle brake should be fine with this adapter, the company states very clearly:

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD THE MDA MUZZLE DEVICE ADAPTER BE USED TO INSTALL A SUPPRESSOR

The bold, all caps and italicization are theirs, not mine. They don’t want anyone to miss this warning.

The MDA can be had in black or silver. Both models retail for $35.95.
