Head Down Product Ammunition

Head Down Products announced a new line of premium ammunition (their term) for the AR crowd. Initially, the company is offering two .223 Rem loads: a 55 gr FMJ and a 60 gr V-Max.

The 55 gr FMJ load is actually a remanufactured load using military range brass. Head Down Products uses a Hornady bullet that is loaded to an unspecified velocity. The company states the bullet is “…capable of velocities exceeding 3,000 feet per second.” Head Down Products also states it is loaded to SAAMI specs.

The 55 grain load is only available in a pack of 1,000 rounds. It has an MSRP of $389.99. At the time I am writing this article, the company has an introductory price of $349.99, but I do not know how long this reduced price will remain available.

Slightly heavier, the second load uses a 60 grain Hornady V-Max bullet that is appropriate for varmint and predator hunting. The bullet uses a lead core with a polymer tip for rapid expansion on impact with flesh.

These loads use virgin brass. No velocity information is immediately available for these rounds either.

This load is only sold in 50 round packages. Each box carries a suggested retail price of $44.99. As with the FMJ load above, these are also on an introductory discount of $35.99.
