Mec-Gar 10mm magazine

Major magazine manufacturer Mec-Gar is now selling a new munitions feeder to the general public for the Witness (Tanfoglio) pistols chambered for the 10mm pistol.

These steel bodied magazines hold 14 rounds of the ammunition. Mec-Gar, an OEM supplier of magazines to many gun makers, have redesigned the mag’s body to improve proper functioning. Additionally, the company heat treats the metal for improved strength and then uses a proprietary reduced friction coating.

The anti-friction treatment is said to make reloading very slick while also offering good corrosion protection. For anyone hunting with a 10mm pistol, having a good rust prevention treatment on the magazines may be helpful if you get caught in poor weather conditions. Where most guns have very good metal treatments, it has been my experience that magazines often do not.

Mec-Gar designed these magazines with a removable floor plate made of a synthetic material. This is helpful for cleaning out the internals of the magazine.ing how much dirt, sand and other debris can work into the magazine of a regularly used firearm.

Mec-Gar is offering these with a MSRP of $38.30. Actual pricing online and in stores may be much cheaper.

Recently, the company announced magazines for the Taurus 738 TCP pistol as well as mags for the Witness 9mm and .40 S&W handguns.

Ironically, Mec-Gar was one of the many subcontractors that helped kill the Bren Ten. The magazines they supplied Dornaus & Dixon were not properly heat-treated. The inertia of the loaded cartridges versus the recoil of the original hot 10mm Noma ammunition would result in the magazine tube becoming deformed. After attempts to retemper the magazine tubes themselves. Dornaus & Dixon ultimately reserved the Mec-Gar magazines for .45 ACP use only.

@Daniel E. Watters I wonder if Mec-Gar was contacted to make magazines for the abortive Bren Ten revival project by VLTOR as well.

I picked up a bunch of OEM mags for my Elite Match 10mm when I purchased it almost a year ago. $15/each and flawless.

@22winmag I purchased an elite match 10mm about 5 years ago, the magazines function fine but they don't load all the way, if you try and load them all the way you get misfires. They just feel crappy when you're trying to load them. Black metal with red followers.

I bought a few of the .40 mec-gar mags for my witness .40 wonder-finish and it is totally awesome. I heard Tanfoglio ditched their in-house magazine operation and began selling mec-gar OEM at some point. Check the base plate.
