CMMG Has Begun Shipping MK47 Mutants

According to a press release, CMMG has begun shipping MK 47 Mutant rifles to “select stores”:

Fayette, MO -CMMG Inc. has announced that the company has shipped its first production run of Mk47 MUTANT rifles to preferred retailers and big box stores, including Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shops.

The announcement comes just a little over a month after the official launch of the revolutionary new AR-style rifle, chambered in the legendary 7.62x39mm caliber. Capable of accepting existing AK magazines yet still offering the modularity and accuracy of the AR platform, the Mk47 MUTANT has been the talk of both consumers and industry insiders, with plenty of speculation regarding when the rifle will actually hit shelves.

Jeff Overstreet, co-owner of CMMG, said, “We deliberately waited to launch this rifle until we were absolutely sure that we could bring a quality, finished product to stores. So often in our industry, exciting new products are launched but consumers have to wait months, sometimes years, before the product hits shelves. We are very excited to announce that the Mk47 is already available in select stores.”

There have been enough “vaporware” type incidents that it’s a good sign that CMMG is following through with distributing the Mutant so soon after it was announced. I think there may be a real market for these rifles, but that would have quickly evaporated if the rifles hadn’t come to market quickly enough to capitalize on the attention CMMG generated with their announcement.
