The Drop Dead target is a steel target system that will drop only when hit in vital locations.  The steel targets can be set to drop in a variety of situations:

• one head shot OR center mass shot
• one head shot AND one center mass shot
• two center mass shots only
• two center mass shots AND one head shot

A firearms instructor could set several of these up and the student would have to engage a threat until the target dropped.  While not perfect (it could take five shots to drop a threat, for example), it forces the shooter to deliver precise shots in an unknown number and combination.
